MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. A higher MERV rating (like MERV 11 or 13) captures smaller particles like bacteria and smoke, while a lower rating (like MERV 8) is sufficient for basic dust and lint filtration.
How do I find the correct size filter for my HVAC system?
Check the side of your existing filter for the printed dimensions. If no dimensions are listed, measure the length, width, and depth of the filter slot. Note that 'nominal size' is often rounded up, while 'actual size' is the precise measurement.
